Education Design Guidance
Translating vision into the built environment
Too often the opportunity to create a truly special learning environment that meets and exceeds users’ needs is lost and a new ‘old’ school is built. This can be because of a lack of shared understanding, because the design team does not fully grasp the vision of the school or because the school does not feel ready to explore the future of learning with the designers.
We act as a guide between schools and design teams to ensure that the ethos schools wish to foster form the concept of the building design. We start by drilling down into the activities that schools wish to provide and the needs of the people who will use and inhabit the space, and use this information to inform the designs. Having experience of how school organisation and management can inform spaces as well as how the space itself influences behaviour, we can speak both the language of schools and design. Using many techniques and practical exercises we can assist both schools and design teams either before or during design consultation.
