Circulation Modeling
Efficient circulation

We know that circulation in a school has an effect on behaviour but, until now, precisely how to regulate it was a matter of gut feel rather than an exact science. Whether a circulation route should be 1.8m wide or 3m wide for example could be a real source of contention between schools and design teams with no means of assessing the impact either option would actually have on congestion.

Now however, there is an evidence-based solution. We use school circulation modeling software that can predict the degree to which a school design will create congestion or difficult to manage circulation routes. The school timetable can be incorporated into the software and animations of the rate of free movement around the school at lesson change over are produced to illustrate any pinch points that there might be. We can offer design advice and suggestions for alterations to school management systems to address problem hotspots and improve circulation.
